At the beginning of the month we were super excited to post a facebook album of some of our favorite images from 2011 with a big challenge to all of you - our friends, fans, and friends of fans! If you haven't seen that album yet click {HERE} to see what all the excitement is about! We had NO idea that over 100,000 photoviews and nearly 3000 votes later YOU would narrow down your favorite photo (and couple) of 2011 to two of our favorites also! MUCH LESS that they would be separated by less than 40 votes when it was all said and done.

SO - it's OFFICIALLY time to announce the winner (and give away the $50 print credit).... BUT FIRST - there's a PART TWO to this challenge and it's going to be a big one! We weren't planning on giving a trophy to second place until we saw how many of you were in love with their images too! To say this couple is photogenic may be a horrific understatement. What's amazing about them isn't what's so obvious though. They've been together for YEARS AND YEARS and have such a special GODLY relationship. This wedding was beautiful, FULL of style and fashion inspired ideas, and more than anything fun for every guest. Second place was no fluke. Mallory and Mike are two pretty incredible people themselves. SUPER active at their church, OBSESSED with fitness and health, and involved in some way or another with making sure every person they meet are healthy physically and spiritually they've taken on a LOT of responsibility in their lifestyle. They sold me on how simple this wedding was going to be and they couldn't have underestimated themselves more. A BEAUTIFUL reception was designed and pulled off in a MASSIVE warehouse styled building - turned garden / night club. We danced LATE with a unique and exciting DJ, amazing food, and I believe a pull up competition under the awning which I may or may not have been a part of!

{love stories} Laura & Aaron | Marriage in the Mile High

I have to admit I'm embarrassed to be so far behind posting on the blog! Since Gavin was born our extra "blog" time has slipped - so both of our blogs are lying waiting some much needed updates. This is a great way to start that catch up process. Laura & Aaron are friends of a friend I grew up with back in New Mexico. When she got engaged (to a super talented photographer by the way) we were so excited to get a call to shoot her wedding! Unfortunately, we were already booked on her date and couldn't work out getting to Gulf Shores to be with her and Drake. Lucky for us, a few of their closest friends were also recently engaged and they were kind enough to pass us along to Laura & Aaron. Several month later I was on a plane headed to Denver, and anxious to get to one of the most beautiful weddings of the year...

The day I got into Denver was beautiful and I took the chance to drive around and make sure I knew how to get from the Church (Rockland Community Church) to the reception at the Tivoli brewery building downtown. The next morning we all woke up to the first snow of the year in Denver, and while we were all nervous that the outdoor photos, not to mention the travel back and forth to the mountains for the ceremony would be affected the end result was priceless.

We were a bit rushed the morning of, but had scheduled plenty of time after the ceremony for the fun stuff, so the goal right off the bat was just to keep everything on time. Laura's bridesmaids were awesome such a fun group to hang out with that morning, and when we left the Aveda Institute downtown (about a gallon of hot Tea later) it was off to the Embassy to get dressed and then into the coolest Limo I've ever seen for the trip up the mountain.

The ceremony was short and sweet, set in a church overlooking a beautiful valley covered in snow and still painted with fall color. The clouds and fog lifted right before the ceremony filling the church with light and giving us a much needed little boost in temperature for the fun photos that would all take place outside right afterward.

After all the shots were done it was off to the party. The old theater was decorated perfectly with a vintage inspired decor, great colored uplighting, and a big dance floor where the party would quickly move. It's always a rush showing up to a new place for a wedding - but with the snow and weather changing (not to mention a slightly grumpy wedding planner) the pressure was high. Laura and Aaron however were the perfect couple for the day and their families were inviting and excited to be a part of their big day! Of course as with ALL of our weddings the end result is the same, the I DO's were said, the kiss was great, and the dancing was fun - but this one stands out as a perfectly beautiful, unique couple in a setting that did their day justice. {love stories} Jessica & Brandon | Dancing in the Rain

As the chapter of our HARDING University couples continues we were super excited to meet Jessica Johnson - a good friend of a few of our OTHER brides from Harding, and a completely fresh and creative kind of bride. It's always tough when so much planning goes into a beautiful wedding and the couple wakes up to rain - but this wedding was so different than the norm...

St. Anthony's on the Creeks is a brand new venue for Northwest Arkansas, and this was my first shot to get a camera inside. Their lush forest scenery wasn't lost even in the rain as the colors of the gardens and even the stone in the chapel and reception hall were so deep and warm. There are really only a few locations that I get really excited to shoot at in Northwest Arkansas and I can honestly say I can't wait to get back out there soon.

Right as the guests started to pull up the clouds broke into a beautiful sunset and Jessica and Brandon said all of their "I do's" to warm sun coming through the stained glass chapel windows. The beauty of St. Anthony's is the maybe 75ft walk to the reception hall from the ceremony and though there's more than enough places for us to run around and shoot, the reception started immediately. We all (myself included) danced pretty late into the night and when the bubbles flew during the leave I'm sure we woke up more than a few homes nearby with the guests screaming and whistling.

Long story short this really was a beautiful one. Such a fun, loving family on both sides really allowed for great ideas and great fun to be had, and the absolute best part was watching the fun and joy of the day come through despite the weather. Congrats you two! Thank you for letting me be such a big part of all of this with you!

{FALL} ing in love | warm modern/vintage engagement shoots

A few weeks back we had the chance to tackle two shoots on the same day of two of our most creative clients from 2012. Both of these couples did everything right with their shoot including coming with a bunch of ideas and looks in mind, as well as of course fun outfits.

Danielle & Brad are going full out with the vintage chic feeling. Their wedding is going to be full of soft color and nostalgic details that are sure to make all of their guests swoon over them. The best part is that they are completely up for anything with their photos and came with an antique store of props and ideas for their engagement shoot. I've held out on pushing this look quite this far until we had the perfect couple for it as so much of the "romance" in the vintage feel has to do with the couple. Danielle and Brad are perfect for it, they're flirty, sweet, funky, and unique - and their field shots are some of my favorites of the year for sure.

Becca and Josh are a totally different kind of couple. They are full of jokes and have a flirty humor that kept me laughing through most of the shoot. Becca booked with us what seems like years ago but finally having the chance to get them in front of my camera was a LOT of fun - not to mention the bikes they showed up with were COMPLETELY perfect. (AND though I usually SHAKE when people suggest bringing their dog, this pup was a perfect "prop" and was so sweet and well behaved.) We ran all over the place for their shoot and chased down some of the best fall color of the year while still staying true to their modern, fun style.

If you've taken the time to read me ramble on here or at least peeked through our work a bit you've probably noticed our love for the littlest parts of a big day. I love to see the way couples plug their stories into the details of their day. For Jen & Blake their rustic garden "lovebird" theme was echoed through every aspect of the day. This wedding may have been small but the ideas were huge and the way Jen pulled together her details made the Garden Room, a pretty popular Fayetteville venue - totally unique. What's to say? Lauren is one of the few seniors we'll be working with this year as we like to make sure all of our senior sessions are unique and fun! Her style completely speaks for itself and when she showed up with her mom and a makeup artist to make sure she looked perfect throughout the whole shoot my job got pretty easy. No need to blab on about this one, she was wonderful and her shots are perfectly her - light hearted, pretty, and fun. Thanks Lauren!

Meet {Maddox} | He's ready for his closeup

It's been a solid couple of weeks since I've posted on here - NO internet I'm not falling back into the blog coma I was in for the first two years this blog existed - actually BIGGER news. Melissa went into labor on the 6th and Gavin (our first) joined the family that afternoon. LOTS more about that soon - when I can get a chance to edit his first couple of photoshoots (check out facebook for photos in the mean time).

Before Gavin joined the world I had a chance to hang out with a friend of ours and big facebook groupie (we love all of you!!) Kate Childers Akins. Kate was perfectly up for anything with this shoot of her little Maddox, and when I suggested we run all over the place from fields to barns and even out on some old docks at a lake nearby. The end result was one part halloween, one part christmas, and all cute. Enjoy and keep checking in for LOTS of updates and catching up to do!

Changing Seasons {Rachel & Tyler} | Engagement Session

I really didn't think we were going to have much of a fall after such a dry summer - and then all at once it hit overnight. The colors have been pretty incredible and we've finally had a chance to get a few of our 2012 couples out in this beautiful fall weather to play. When Rachel & Tyler told me that his family used to own the War Eagle Mill - I was excited to tackle their engagement session around the old trees, big bridge, and all the fun fall colors. There's more than enough RIGHT THERE for a great shoot so we spent 2 hours walking back and forth across fields and ravines playing around in the fall light. The end result was a perfectly lit, warm fall shoot. Rachel showed up with a handfull of fun little props to play with - take a peek at their shots! I'm excited to see all of these 2012 couples starting to get infront of our cameras. No doubt 2012 will be the best season yet! {miles}

Vintage Lovely | {Katie & Adam} | Pratt Barn

So many little things make Katie & Adam fun to work with. The sad part? We're not going to be there for the big day! Katie contacted me quite awhile ago to be a part of her vintage inspired wedding at the Pratt Place Inn in Fayetteville, but unfortunately we were already tied into another wedding and couldn't get her to budge her date. When her and Adam decided to have me tackle their engagement and bridal shoots I was excited to give them a little bit of our work and hopefully inspire a little bit of the decor and fun on the big day - even if we will miss it! SO - when Katie showed up with a car full of fun props, great ideas, and stylish outfits the work came easy. It's the only engagement shoot I've ever done at the barn and what started as me wondering if we'd have enough to shoot - turned into a full shoot and more than enough fun to look through for some great final photos for them! This whole family was super unique and artsy and their day was full of fun little moments. The {CORNY} couple. (That's husker humor)

Before I flew to Nebraska and hung out with some of the funniest, and sweetest people anywhere in the country. Before I met a group full of groomsmen who all gave me fake names. Even before I met Ellen, the bridesmaid who couldn't believe I didn't know what a "Combine" was for - I had a chance to work with just Amanda.

Amanda's bridal session was planned out to the "t" and she showed up ready to do everything just right. We wandered all over the place from location to location and the final result was something fresh and unique for all of her friends and family. As I write Amanda and Lance are celebrating they're 3rd day married and I couldn't wait to get a few of her shots on the internet to show what a fun and unique bride she is. Of course check in soon for shots from their outdoor wedding JUST barely dodging some sprinkles at the Lied Lodge in Nebraska City, NE. If you love trees this place is like heaven, and this couple I'm convinced changed the way weddings will look in this little town for a long time. Congrats to the two of them! Going BIGTIME - {Two Cups Design} | Custom Invites and awesomeness

I'll admit it right now - I have spent the VAST majority of my life chasing after the oober creative concepts of my bigger sister. She was the good looking, good grade, good at everything big sister every little brother loves to hate - and YET she bought me over with years of icecream and bubblegum when she walked me to school.

Fast forward a few decades {has it been that long?} and we've got a pretty good thing going. I am actually writing this post from the Omaha, NE airport where I spent the entire day yesterday doing one of my favorite things. BUT this post isn't about me - it's about time I give credit where credit is due. SO - when my sister {meg} and her husband {brad} approached me not long ago thinking about taking their design firm in some new directions all I heard was bla bla bla BRIDE! So many creative ideas began being thrown around and then came their designs.

I'm ANYTHING but partial here, as I'm probably more critical of my sister's design than I even would be of myself {leftover jealousy} BUT when I saw what her and Brad had done I couldn't help but get excited. And now here it is - a NEW updated website to accomodate the newest venture of {TWO CUPS DESIGN} - Boutique Invites, ALL CUSTOM, all creative, all cohesive, all amazing.

Finally Fall {engagement sessions} Amy & Kyle

It's finally time to break out the fall sweaters, comfy socks, and hot cocoa and we're pretty ready to wrap up the hottest summer either of us can remember shooting. SO in celebration of the frost I'm anxious to show off a little fall color and one of our new couples for our 2012 season.

Amy & Kyle are ANOTHER Harding University couple (seems like we have a LOT of those lately). They're story is of course pretty cute, but what makes the two of them really pop is their personalities. Amy almost never stops giggling and laughing when Kyle's around and the two of them were able to really have a good time with their shoot. SO - no need to ramble on and on, I know the photos do a better job of introducing them. {miles}

Simply {incredible} | Andrea & Josh - Taos, NM

Every once in awhile a wedding absolutely raises the bar. I know I know I seem to say GREAT things about every client. I promise I'm not just making it up, by some rush of luck it seems like almost all of our clients turn into incredible friends, BUT this wedding really was something special. People don't understand how different home is unless you've been there. Taos, NM - where I grew up, is really a completely different world. The people that I grew up around, the cultures and colors, and celebrations and traditions and every aspect of daily life is immersed in so much history that I took for granted throughout my childhood.

Andrea and I literally grew up together. The schools have grown up a lot now, BUT when we were kids Taos schools were still small enough that everybody knew eachother, and Andrea and I ran in pretty similar circles all the way up to graduation. When she called me to chat about her wedding I was so excited for her that I didn't really even think about how much fun we would have shooting a wedding back where I grew up. The engagement shoot went perfectly as we stomped through about a foot of fresh snow in town over a quick new years vacation to see my family, and the wedding itself did anything but disappoint.

On to the big day! San Fransico Church, or the Old Ranchos Church as we always knew it is called the "most photographed church in the western hemisphere". It's famous back walls decorate art galleries walls all over the country and the inside is perfectly preserved. It really does feel like stepping back in time sitting watching a wedding ceremony in the hand carved pews. After the ceremony the party was picked up by a Taos tradition - a Taos Trolley. As I kid I remember all of the Trolly's stuffed with tourists going from the pueblo to the plaza and down on Bent St. The only time it seemed locals ever got on a trolly was after a wedding as they drove through town honking and getting traffic to pull to a stop with people cheering for the bride. After a short photo shoot in town we headed off to the country club - undeniably the most beautiful view of the sunset and Taos mountain in the valley. Pink and Brown decore decorated everything and after about a 30 minute tradition dance entrance ("la marcha") it was on to an incredible dinner and dancing late into the night by a DJ playing a mix of top 40 music in English and Spanish. I can't say enough about this couple and we were both so honored to be a part of all of this with them! Enjoy a BUNCH of shots from their big day below! {miles}

Crystal & Cory {engagement session}

Easily one of my favorite couples for 2012 Crystal and Cory are more like family than just clients to us. Cory's older sister is one of Melissa's closest friends and Crystal and him and been together for as long as either of us have known them. Of course when they got engaged I was there hiding in the trees taking pictures, and we were both beyond honored to take on their wedding and helping plan all of the photo fun for their big day.

We got rained out on our first attempt at an engagement shoot, but as you can see below we were able to pull together a great shoot with them - they make it super easy on us though. Such a fun couple from two incredible families. I can't wait to get to their wedding day to see all of Crystals ideas come out! Take a peek at their shots below and check in for updates on them soon! {love stories} Libby & Kevin - THE BIG DAY

It seems like just last week that Libby and Kevin and I stood in the FREEZING cold walking through 6 or 7 inches of snow for their engagement shoot and just a few days ago that Libby, her mom, another one of our wonderful brides Nellie, and Libby's HUGENORMOUS dog emma wandered around in the 105 degree heat for her bridal session.

I met Libby at Nellie and Jed's wedding last year and was so impressed with her hyper organized attitude and super outgoing personality. When we met to start work on her wedding she was full of ideas, and her and Kevin were so excited and focused on having a good time and enjoying the big day. The wedding was at Central United Methodist in Springdale which gave us some great locations near by for some fun group shots for the guys and the reception was just down the road at the country club where the girls spent the morning getting ready and taking their shots. The reception ran into the night with an incredible cover band, some of the best Sangria I've ever tasted, and Libby heading up the dance floor with a full out arsenal of 80's dance moves done to perfection. {love stories} Brittney & Daniel | Sneak-Peek

Remember Brittney & Daniel? Their engagement photos were the perfect mix of vintage romantic light and a light hearted fun couple who just enjoys being together. Their big day was this last saturday and I, along with all of their guests, was completely shocked at how beautiful the whole day turned out. The decor was perfect - from the live willow trees creating an arbor all the way down the aisle at the church, to the bird cages, custom labeled bottles of wine, and old doors and windows covered in branches and vines - every little detail was pulled off perfectly. Kappa's in the Delta {love stories} | Jen & Devin

Any of you that know me very well know I'm not exactly the most outdoorsy guy in Arkansas. I don't know how I managed to grow up in the Rockies and become such a city boy, but somehow it happened and I'm pretty happy dressed up at a cool restaurant on a friday night - not necessarily prepping for a day out in a field the next day. That being said - driving into McGehee, AR (about 35 miles past the middle of nowhere) was just a hint of culture shock. From the time I checked into my hotel (the only one in town) to the time I said goodbye to Jen & Devin as they drove off I don't think I've ever been smiled at, or hugged so much. This little town is full of so much character and the family and friends of Jen (to be fair MANY of which came down from Little Rock and Northwest Arkansas) were a blast. The wedding day started off with a long brunch at a friend's house and hours of getting the 10 bridesmaids ready...

One of the largest wedding parties of our year I think the full party picture had almost 35 people in it. Needless to say these two have plenty of friends, and the party would have lasted long into the night (in fact it might still be going on) had the limo not shown up. I'm not sure when the last time McGehee, AR saw a party quite like this, BUT I know Jen & Devin pulled off something pretty awesome.

Happy Friday everybody! We're putting together a short post today, working away on editing a beautiful reception and headed out for two engagement shoots today. First things first, it's a BIG game weekend for Arkansas this week and even though we rarely get to catch a whole game (we work every saturday) we're both big Hogs fans and excited to see the first 3 quarters of this Alabama game before I'm off to Staci and Brandon's reception. ANYWAY (excuse my a.d.d.) I'm excited to brag about little Mr. Cameron Allen Post, on of our very FAVORITE {little clients}. Ashley & Dustin, Cameron's parents, are two of our closest friends and we were excited to hear that Ashley submitted little Cameron's little "Blue Steel" razorback photo to help cheer on game day this week on the news. SO - we already knew he was cute, but here's proof! CONGRATS to Mr. Cameron for his first TV appearance, and THANK YOU to Ashley & Dustin to sending me this great shot!

{PUBLISHED} "What's in Arkansas?" | BIG EXCITING NEWS FOR US

"What's in Arkansas?" That's the first question we heard when we talked to the AWESOME people at Southern New England WEDDINGS magazine about Kelly & Tommy's beautiful Ocean House (www.oceanhouseri.com) wedding. Needless to say I think we were the first Arkansas photographers to be brought in for a wedding at this incredible venue. We were so excited to hear that they were interested in featuring this wedding a long with a short story and interview from Kelly and us about the big day that we didn't even consider finding our shot on the cover! On the stands RIGHT NOW : they were nice enough to send along digital files so we could brag a bit. :) I know we've talked and talked about this beautiful wedding, SO I'll spare everybody reliving it one more time, but I can't say enough about this couple and their families. We do want to give a quick shout out to our new friend Sarah True (www.TrueEvent.com) - one of the most creative and fun wedding planners we've ever worked with. We're excited to be back up in New England with her again soon! What Happens In Vegas... {How to pull off a TOP SECRET wedding} Staci & Brandon

Working away on a few shoots and weddings right now and looking forward to a bit of a laid back weekend. Months ago we booked a wedding with an INCREDIBLE couple with a cool idea! Staci and Brandon were determined to have a SMALL laid back wedding in a place that would allow them to just relax and enjoy the entire process - the problem : they have more friends than they know what to do with.

The answer turned out to be so simple, but not as easy to pull off. They planned a destination wedding to Las Vegas and asked ONLY their parents to come along and to keep it as hush hush as possible. A few weeks later they'd plan a large reception for all of their friends and family who were EXPECTING wedding invites. To keep the coolness running, they'd put a picture of them from the wedding day into the invite to announce "surprise - we're already married!"

We loved the idea, and were totally on board, SO off to Vegas. The photos were all over the Vegas Strip on the hottest weekend of the year (110 on the wedding day), BUT the wedding was on the 56th floor balcony of the Cosmopolitan hotel overlooking the Bellagio fountains, the Eifel tower, and the Aria towers. We had so much fun with this amazing couple and their families, and though this was by far the smallest wedding we've ever shot (8 people including us), the party and photos tell a story much bigger!

SO here we go - the reception is THIS weekend, and we pulled off a few photos to help tell the story to the guests at the reception at the BLESSINGS country club and wanted to share them with you! Not sure where all of you were this weekend while Jessica and Brandon tied the knot - BUT one thing is for sure, we couldn't let the rain slow us down. Of course I'll have lots of shots to show off and a big shout out to a new and beautiful wedding venue in Northwest Arkansas (St. Anthony's on the Creek). BUT before there was a beautiful day full of rain clouds that broke RIGHT before the ceremony started, and before there was a Mr. and Mrs. Brumley, there was just Jessica and an amazing dress. So many things on our minds this morning! Melissa is already off to work (remember she still has the big girl job while I get to play for a living) and I'm sitting with the dog trying to organize and manage a long list of edits, contracts to scan, and new shoots to brainstorm and plan. First thing's first though - I've actually enjoyed keeping the blog up to date the last few days. Something that if you check in often you've noticed I'm terrible about! A lot of you may not know that I've taken on teaching a class at John Brown University (where I graduated from) this semester teaching commercial photography. It has been a wild ride already, MUCH more work than I expected, but also more fun then I had planned for. A major part of this class is built around stuff like blogging, tweeting, networking, and hanging out with clients and other photographers and SO here I am tasting my own medicine a bit trying to keep my blog up to date.

It's not really a shock to people that know our work how much we love that vintage feel of a soft light photo. Keri & Derek's wedding had SO much bold beautiful color in it that I couldn't help but sprinkle a lot of it in. This wedding was at probably the most "known" wedding location in Northwest Arkansas. The Pratt Place really is a beautiful location and it's always nice to get the chance to tackle a big wedding here as there are so many places to set up and have fun with shots. Keri is a HUGE planner so there was no doubt that the day would be organized and Derek did a great job at keeping the mood light and laid back along with a pack of great groomsmen. JACQUELINE & CRAIG {love stories} | Carnall Hall

Time this morning for a much overdo post. We're busy wrapping up our summer weddings, and reliving some of the fun moments of what was not only the hottest summer we've ever shot in, but also the most creative. Our weddings this summer were full of fun, fresh ideas and it will be a fall FULL of showing off those ideas and the amazing couples that came up with them! JBU day today for me - so I'm working away on today's lesson plan and working with my students on self marketing and promotion, BUT FIRST I wanted to take a chance to tackle one of my favorite NWA weddings of the year so far.

Jacqueline is the youngest of several sisters so when I sat with her mom for the first time to talk wedding with her, she was already a pro. The ideas, themes, and plan for this wedding was perfectly organized and I can honestly say I don't think I've ever worked on a schedule for the day of so many months out. The end result was so seamless and really allows Jacqueline to relax and enjoy a big wedding with LOT of friends and family. Final guest count had to have been near 400 as Carnall Hall, (the original Girl's dorm remodeled into a beautiful hotel on the campus of the University of Arkansas) was bursting a seams. The tent outside housed an incredible cover band, lounge furniture, big chandelier, and a LOT of dancefloor. Inside guests were served an incredible dinner, and cake (one of my favorite wedding cakes ever).

{KATIE & CASEY} love stories | Wedding Day

Every once in awhile we work with clients who are so quick to scoop us up and make us family. Katie & Casey are perfectly that couple. They planned their wedding to be a timeless vintage look filled with Italian themes (where they'd spend their honeymoon). I've never actually seen a groom so passionate about romancing his fiance before, but Casey (who I'm sure I've now completely embarrassed) loves to write love letters to Katie for no particular reason at all. Even these letters were framed and used as decor. Everywhere I looked was more detail and this wedding turned out perfectly. So, here's a peek at some of the fun. Gulf Shores Update...

Just getting back from New Mexico and deciding whether to even unpack before we head out to Las Vegas it's quickly becoming one of the most active destination seasons yet! If you scroll down a bit you'll see our trip to Rhode Island and read all about that, BUT right now we're excited to start to wrap up Lindsey & Geoff's wedding down in Fort Morgan (Gulf Shores) Alabama. We spent several days in Alabama with these two and their amazing family, and this wedding was packed full of fun little details and close friends. The wedding took place at a beautiful beach home right on the tip of the Fort Morgan peninsula, and even though it was scorching hot - it was pulled off without a hitch. LOVE STORY {Kelly & Tommy} | The Ocean House, Rhode Island

Kelly & Tommy met us at the front door of the Chapel across the street from the Ocean House for the first time with big hugs and that quintessential New England cheek kiss. From that moment on I'm not sure I ever noticed these two not beaming with excitement for their big day. This wedding was perfectly planned and pulled off in every way. Kelly & Tommy were so willing and excited to sneak away from the action to do little photo shoots with us here and there, and our excitement about the venue only proved a challenge in trying to tackle the Ocean House from every angle. This was a true fairy tale wedding, and our goal for the photos was to capture the luxury and elegance that was so simply placed throughout the details. Anyway, Kelly & Tommy : you two are incredible and it was such a pleasure being such a big part of your big day! OK - meet "Emma" and of course our wonderful bride Libby. Obviously this isn't actually a horse, but about as close as you can come without breaking out the spurs and boots. (Which by the way Libby totally has). We JUST wrapped up Libby and Kevin's wedding this last week, and are working away on weddings from Rhode Island to Gulf Shores, Alabama right now but couldn't help but take a minute to show off a truly unique idea.

I have to admit - any time a client asks to bring their dog with them I cringe a bit. I always picture a little cotton ball with legs, stuffed into a handbag, slobbering on the dress as I try and make sure the bride looks cute and spontaneous and the dog just doesn't look stuffed. Every once in awhile though I get my sarcasm stuffed completely in my face. :) I love those moments!

Enter Libby and "Emma". Emma is a 3000 lb something or other, with the personality of a little puppy. Thankfully she's actually really well trained, and was more than willing to tackle just about anything I needed her to as long as it came with a dip in the fountain afterwards. Libby of course was stunning but talk about a unique idea! {you}nique ideas - THE FIRST LOOK

Of course the goal of every photoshoot is to create "the" moment - where we just sit back and press the button. BUT, more and more we're asked not only by other photographers, but by our clients what the best way to set up those moments are. I could go on forever with little ideas on how to make a bride come out of her shell, or how to loosen up a nervous groom, but one of the most simple and fun ways to get our cameras snapping is just to let the couple be... well - together.

Madison and Matt are a perfect example of what makes a first look so special. Working on this wedding right now, I'm reliving how sweet it was when Matt first had a chance to turn around and see Madison smiling at him.

Quick Tips on keeping the first look SPECIAL, and the photos AMAZING.

1. PLAN IT OUT {we always scout an area that has great light, and lots of room}

2. MAKE IT PRIVATE {get the friends and family to go inside for a bit}

3. STEP BACK {we put on our longest lenses and let the couple enjoy a few minutes whispering}

4. DONT WAIT TO LONG {after the initial SHOCK wears off a bit, use the flirty vibe!}

It's officially one of those rare little moments that I have a chance to get away from a destination trip and blog a bit. Melissa's all ready for the rehearsal dinner tonight, my tie's already tied, and we're 20 minutes ahead of schedule! UNHEARD OF. We took a drive this morning to take a peek at the Ocean House (http://www.oceanhouseri.com) where we'll spend the day tomorrow with a beautiful couple. Our wedding planner for the weekend, Ms. Sarah True, (http://www.trueevent.com/true.html) is one of the best in the business up here and we're both pretty excited to finally get a camera on all of the ideas she's pulled together for Kelly and Tommy. {Swanky} St. Louis - Denise & Vince

Can't believe it's been over a month since my last blog post, but such is life in wedding season.. Though I'm more than just a few shoots behind on updating the blog, and all of our readers (who no doubt are dwindling with my lack of action on here) I figured it would be an easy place to pick up with a beautiful wedding and a super cool couple. Denise called me quite awhile ago to chat about her wedding, though our history goes way back. She was a bridesmaid in one of my earliest weddings shooting alone, and the fact that she still called, and for the matter that the bride of that wedding - Adrianne, still allowed her to call shows just how well I managed to cover up how little I knew at the time. Never the less, Adrianne's photos miraculously turned out beautiful and unique, and when one of her best friends - enter Denise - got that ring on her finger my phone started ringing as well.

Denise and I hit it off in a hurry. Her sarcastic humor mixed with Vince's dry sarcasm left me at the butt of plenty of jokes - something I'm always willing to dish back out. We got up to STL on what had to have been the coldest day in history up there for Denise and Vince's engagement and bridal shoot, and then headed back up just a month later for their April wedding. The ceremony was at a pretty dramatic chapel sitting in the middle of Washington University - DARK inside but with lots of color and texture and just enough windows that we were able to pull off some beautiful shots. The reception was downtown in the old theater area of town at the "Sheldon" theater. (I never saw the theater itself, but the ballroom was pretty awesome on the top floor where the party was)

This wedding will stand out for some time for the simple reason that our schedule allowed us to have from noon until 6pm to run all over St. Louis for pictures and even stop with the wedding party at McAlisters, (one of Melissa and my Favorites) for lunch. A dark cloudy day had me spending much of the day shooting at about 800 ISO, mostly jumping back and forth between the 70-200 at 2.8 and 50mm at 2.0.

Our Story // Your Story

I've been struggling lately with the most simple task - writing. Most people, even a lot of our close friends don't really understand how shy I really CAN be as that's pretty far from my personality behind a camera. That being said blogging about our lives tends to revolve around what's going on with WORK, or where we're shooting but I realize lately how many people seem to ask me the same question over and over. HOW did you get into photography at such a young age? It's a question I know will come up at most engagement shoots, a lot of meetings over a cup of afternoon coffee, and certainly a few times at most receptions. The answer seems like it has been explained so many times I just read it somewhere and can seem to repeat what somebody else wrote.

The truth actually seems to me like it's worth writing. And for a lot of our blog readers, and a lot of our friends it would surprise you. It's a theme in my life that I seem to find exactly what I'm (not) looking for whenever I stop looking. My camera, aside from Melissa and a few select other people in our lives, is probably my closest and certainly most consistant friend. I was 11 when my sister's boyfriend at the time (adam) got his first real camera. He was working at a job that I would hold just a few years later, shooting photos on the river of rafters running through the last big rapid on the section of the Rio Grande river called "The Box". This guy was at the time everything I was pretty sure was cool. Didn't seem to matter what he did I wasn't far behind and after a few years of heckling my parents I got my first camera (a Pentax ZX-M) for my 13th birthday, just a few months after my sister and Adam managed not to survive their first semester in college.

Adam was long gone, but my camera was a new challenge. Much like I had tagged along on adventures with Adam, my camera followed me everywhere. I started with the standard sunsets and flowers, (still some of my mom's favorite photos) and moved pretty quickly onto the little sarcastic humors of the new agey weird world around me in Taos, NM. I loved shooting from the hip, surprising a stranger with the click of my shutter as they did something undoubtedly a little embarrassing. I loved culture, and loved color, and then I landed my first big job.

At 15 I started following around a local architectural photographer who had a garage full of hasseblads and large format cameras that intrigued me to no end. Sure his wife at the time was a wedding photographer, but who could focus on something as silly to a teenage boy as a wedding when there were lights to set up, and huge cameras to play with. I learned how to shoot Polaroid backs and expose film as large as a sheet of paper. Took a stab at organizing thousands of "stock photos" all shot on slide film over the previous 20 years. And upgraded to a Pentax ZX-S (or something like that) along with a macro and some used telephoto lens that did exactly what I needed it to do. Portraits.

My mind was set and from really that point on I was stuck. It was people - and it was communication. My camera didn't capture the world around me, it defined it. And then there was college. 4 Years of fighting to show that I already knew everything, while quietly soaking up as much as I could. I all but set my camera down in spite for a few of those years, frustrated at the talent around me, and admittedly a little annoyed at the lack of depth I saw in the photos that came out of my camera. And shockingly, then there was another wedding - my first in 5 years since I had ridden them off as silly.

There was San Antonio, New Mexico, and New York mixed in, and then there was my first business card. There was my first digital camera a Nikon d70 kit with some little crummy lens. That camera shot 25,000 images in the San Antonio desert and managed to all but ruin the sensor changing lenses in dust storms. My D200 shot a few of my early weddings here and there, most along side my college roommate and close friend Jeremy Cavness, who would turn into a heck of a photographer himself. Then I made the big jump to my D300 which sat in my New York apartment during a brief switch to Canon because that's what all the big photographers seemed like they were doing, and then came along with me to my first season of wedding shooting on my own back in Arkansas.

My D700 opened my eyes, and my lenses up. I still tell photographers that they're shooting with blinders until they see a full frame. Cameras may not "need" full frame to be great, but without it I found myself stuck looking at an old Tube TV wondering what that wide screen movie would look like without the huge black void on top and bottom. My d700 was like my first flat screen, every movie I watched was brand new, and every photo I took was new. Color was sharp, and my mind was clear.

Last year came with it much more than my D3S, it came with it a new best friend. Melissa had been my friend for about 2 weeks, my girlfriend for about 1 year, my fiance for about 8 months. We got married in September of 09 but I swear she's been my partner for what seems like forever. Shooting with her just made sense, and though I've always made fun of photographers who had the convenient spouse to help them shoot, Melissa broke that mold for me. She inspired me more, and she shocked me with a view of a wedding that was so soft and feminine. Weddings ever since have been the bread and butter. It's always been people, but weddings it turns out are anything but silly. They push me to create out of chaos, and they allow me the friendships and blessings of a new group of friends growing so quickly each weekend.

So - here we are now.. 2011 is here, 2012 is booking. Websites, facebook, blogs and twitter, a few videos in the works, advertising and workflow. New cameras and lenses, new computers and software upgrades. Weddings from Cozumel to Rhode Island and my camera and my wife seem to be as close now as ever. That's the story, and there's so much more to it!

{new directions} workshops with FOCUS

Everybody who knows us very well understands how important it is for us to feel relevant and trendy. It's something that drives both of us every day, just simply being able to communicate. This seems like a pretty easy thing to do, but the reality is that photography is at it's core communication, and the difference between a good image and a GREAT image is just whether or not it's understood!

Recently we've been given the opportunity to work with a few different teaching venues working with some incredibly talented young photographers. Both workshops have been focused on technique and creativity of course, but more than anything I'm excited to spend time talking through the little things that make a photographer stand out! Yesterday's workshop was packed full of about 20 shooters, 4 models, and 6 hours of shooting and editing together.

We worked through everything from how to scout out locations to posing models, and even how to pick the right equipment for the right shoot. Shooting fully manual, all of our photographers pushed their cameras from ISO200 to the TOP ISO on their cameras, just so we could say we've done it. We shot in sun, shade, and studio lighting. The end result was much more than some great shots! As you can see below a few of the students were willing to let us show off some of their photos, but EVERY student walked out yesterday with the motivation to push their portraiture to the next level. Impressive photography starts with perfect technique and a clever eye!

Long story short, it was a GREAT workshop. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with these young artists and excited to see their craft grow in the future! On December 22, 2009, a cold winter night, Jesse made one of my dreams come true, by asking me to marry him. I could not believe I was engaged, and about to start planning for one of the biggest days of my life. Instead of hiring a wedding planner, I wanted all the planning to be in the hands of my mother and me. I knew I wanted our wedding to have as much family as possible involved in the wedding party/ceremony, really intimate, elegant, classy and full of detail.

My bridal gown was purchased from “She Said Yes” in Rogers, Arkansas. My gown was a beautiful and stunning Romona Keveza gown, full of detail. I immediately got chills when I tried it on, and instantly had tears falling down my face. That’s when I knew it was the one!!! When my dress arrived, it was PERFECT, and even more tears began to fall down my face. I could not believe how amazing and beautiful it was! It literally took my breath away.

The photographer is one of the most important aspects of a wedding. He or she will capture the most amazing moments of the wedding that will last a lifetime. When I met Miles Witt Boyer, I instantly knew he was going to be our photographer! He really took the time to listen to all my plans and visions for my engagement and bridal shoot and the actual wedding itself. Jesse and I had a blast at our engagement shoot! At my bridal photography session, Miles and his wife Melissa teamed up, they are absolutely amazing with their creativity! They are both so incredibly talented. On the wedding day, Miles did a wonderful job, and went over and beyond to make sure he captured every single detail and moment of our wedding. When I got my pictures back, I was able to re-live the wedding day! All I can say is, “WOW!”

Evelyn Garrison was the lady in charge of the flowers. She actually did all the flowers for my parents wedding, which made it even more special. She did an exceptional job, and really took the time to make sure everything was beautiful. The flowers of choice were lots pale pinks and white roses and hydrangeas. All the arrangements were so elegant! .

The last thing I’m going to touch on is my magnificent wedding cake. Shelby Lynn Bakery in Springdale, Arkansas did a phenomenal job. The five tiered cake, buttercream icing with sugarpaste roses, edible rhinestones and pearls really made an impact on the guests. It was delicious and beautiful.

This week we are tackling a tough topic because it's so broad! Jamie Kelly (One of our favorite client's mom) and Patti Morgan Crump asked us similar questions about HOW to work with their kids and a camera. We've thought a lot about doing a workshop for some of our awesome moms on how to work with their kids and their cameras because there is a LOT that goes into answering these questions. Of course the most important part of a photo is making sure it's in focus right? Maybe not TACK sharp in every single shot, but what's more frustrating than missing a GREAT moment because the photo is so blurry you can't make out what was happening?

UNFORTUNATELY this is reality for most people when working with kids. It seems to us like there's only a few short months before a babies' first steps, and a little kid's first sprint. And once they start moving quickly the camera has to learn to be a little bit psychic about not only where to be, but when to press the button! SO here's some advice on working with your kids...

1. GET LIGHT. If you're working with any camera the key to your photos is going to be light! SO, chances are you're not reading this with a 5 strobe studio setup, wireless triggers, and a professional camera. CHANCES ARE you're constantly fighting the light.. SO - go outside, enjoy some fun in a fun environment, and 9 times out of 10, shoot in the shade! The only thing cameras hate more than darkness, is shadows. SO, find some fun shade on a bright day and play!

2. IF you're working with an SLR camera what matters the most is your shutter speed. If you're shooting at a SLOW shutter speed, IE less than even 1/250th of a second the movement of your kid can REALLY affect your photos. SO, if you shoot manual adjust your ISO a bit, turn down your Aperture if you can, and CRANK UP that shutter speed. If none of that makes sense to you, do this - turn your camera on "A" that's Aperture priority - then turn down your Aperture as low as you can. For a lot of entry level lenses this may be somewhere between 3.5-4.6 (keep in mind that if you shoot this type of lens wide open it's FASTER, hints the 3.5). What this will do is allow your camera to shoot at the fastest possible shutter speed given the light that your camera thinks it can handle.

**If you're not working with an SLR camera you're probably shooting a point and shoot. These are ALWAYS going to have a lag to the photos because they don't take the picture when you press the button. Your only choice at this point is have lots of light, and press the button 1/2 second before something cute happens. GOOD LUCK. Point and shoots are just plain frustrating - we agree.

3. GET ON THEIR LEVEL. If you want beautiful photos of your kids don't shoot down on them unless there's a reason to! Squat, sit, lay down, crawl. It's amazing how much different the world looks from the ground, and if you want your kids to play to your camera they have to have you down there with them.

Of course I know that a lot of this may be a bit over some of our mom's heads. We are ALWAYS up for explaining or helping with anything we can! SO if you have questions about your camera, or any of the above just give us a shout! Chances are a lot of other people share you questions too! BUT without knowing what camera you're shooting and how much you know, it's tough covering ALL our bases at once. :)

{VINTAGE EDITS}
Last part of our post today is also for Patti who wants to know how we do some of our Vintagy feel in our post processing. WELL.... we can't give away EVERYTHING, but first thing's first GET photoshop! :) If you're working with a great photo editing software then we can give you some hints. ALL we use for editing is Photoshop and Lightroom just because they are the absolute industry standard. All I mean by that is that all the other programs out there are made to replicate things that Adobe has invented, so our best advice is go to the source and learn the real backbone to digital photography! It's a MASSIVE overwhelming program, but it's fun and so exciting to figure it out! We still learn new tricks every day!

OK - so once you're editing your photos try thinking outside of the box with your editing a bit. Try doing different colors of filters and overlays over your photos to achieve that vintagy feel. The most simple way to start is to take out just a little bit of your saturation. That will wash the color out of the photo just a little. Once you tackle that, experiment with different tones of yellows and even pinks and blues laid over your photo to give it that washed out feel.

It's that time again, engagement season! And as we pull together a calendar full of fun new couples, ideas, and locations we're excited to show off a few of our favorite shots from this last year. We get asked a LOT what we suggest couples do to plan for an engagement shoot and the easy answer is - relax, flirt, have fun. When you show up to a shoot with us, we don't care if you're wearing prints or certain colors, if you've got glasses on or some coffee to keep you warm. What matters to us is really simple, that you act happy and in love! Engagement sessions with us run around 2 hours, and unless you have any ideas on where you'd like to shoot, WHICH WE LOVE, we will go all over the place to locations we already love, and new ones we may just stumble into. It's all about fun, all about romance, and a little bit about making sure you're pretty comfortable with a big camera in your face! That way on the big day, you don't even think twice when we pop up during all the sweet little moments. Enjoy looking through these shots, and if you have ideas - we want to hear them! So it's a miserably snowy day outside and we're officially caught up on edits and busy working away on organizing and updating some fun new business ideas. PERFECT time to take a break from all of that and do another Ask Us response on here. This question came from Aaron Szabo, who just happens to be one of our favorite videographers. (www.imaginefilmcompany.com) He wants to know what our advise is for working with clients who aren't our "style". Specifically he's interested in how we adapt and how much confidence plays a part in all of this.

This is a tough question to tackle because there are so many aspects to working with clients. I guess I'd say first and foremost that we try and be REALLY honest and transparent with our clients from the first time we meet with them about our expectations and way of working. That allows us to reference that very first meeting for a lot of potential questions that might come up. I make it a point when I meet with prospective clients not to try and OVER sell our services so that they don't feel as though they were made promises that can't be kept, but also try and make sure that we go above and beyond what they would expect not just from us, but from a photographer in general. Going about business that way removes the worry of us typically getting along with out clients because we address it right off the bat how important it is for them to feel comfortable, and equally how important it is that we are comfortable with them.

There are definitely going to be people who are a different "style" than us. I suppose it's probably easier for people from the outside to clarify what our "style" is, but it's definitely fairly defined and our hope is that we're doing a good enough job with our current clients and advertising to continue to attract THOSE clients. Nothing at all against people who are looking for something else, BUT we love those fun, flirty couples who are anxious to get down that aisle and want us to help them remember a lot of the little moments that went into all of their planning! SO, in the off chance that we get somebody who doesn't exactly meet what we are typically comfortable with, again I think honesty right off the bat is most important. I guess I'd put it this way, early on in a business the tendency is to take every client that calls just so that the money is coming in, and the experience is growing, BUT what makes a business successful isn't just being in popular, but moreso it's being unique and desired. Honesty with your client is the absolute key with that, and confidence plays a major role in that honesty.

Here's my best advice when it comes to difficult clients -
1. BE HONEST with them.
2. Do your BEST to make them happy without compromising what you're doing for other clients, or your business ethics.
3. Have the confidence to TRY and understand what they want.
4. BE PICKY UPFRONT (if you're careful to take the clients who WANT what you offer, it shouldn't be a problem, AND if your product is good enough to impress even the most difficult clients sometimes it's worth gritting your teeth until they see the final product)

Learning to understand Shutter Speed / Aperture / ISO fast!

Brandon Cassidy and Heather Thompson were interested in some of the basic details of setting you camera for shooting and how to speed up that process. First let me explain just a few of the basic camera questions -

Shutter Speed refers obviously to how fast your mirror goes up and your shutter opens + closes exposing (if your shooting digital) your sensor to collect information that's read as your "photo" This is the click that you hear when you fire off a shot. Obviously the FASTER the shutter speed the FASTER the photo is taken. That may sound dumb, but it's important to understand because the biggest problem most photographers face is making sure their photos are "sharp" (in focus). The longer that shutter is open the more movement of your subject affects the final photo!

Aperture refers to how far open your lens is when you take a picture. This is the most fundamental aspect to a camera - undestand how to control your aperture and you're a pro, don't and you might as well have a wind up and click disposable. The LOWER the number on your aperture, IE 2.8, 3.5 etc... The MORE open your lens is which obviously allows in MORE light from a broader spectrum, and also SHORTENS your depth of field. Basically put it this way, if you take a photo of a flower in front of a tree at 2.8 the flower will be in focus and the tree will be a blur. On the flip side the HIGHER the number on your aperture, IE 8, 11, 22 etc... the LESS light your lens lets in and the more direct the spectrum of light which ELONGATES your depth of field. Higher number basically means the flower AND the tree can be in focus.

ISO has it's roots back in the film days. Originally known as ASA all this number really refers to is the SPEED of the "film". Remember going to walmart and buying 400 or 800 film? Well digital cameras work really under a VERY similar idea. The HIGHER the ISO number the FASTER the speed, BUT also typically the more grain noise is collected. If you've ever shot 3600 speed film you know where grain really comes from as a digital add in. It really can be a cool part of a photo, BUT if it's not wanted having film in a photo will really mess up the final product. SO, best rule of thumb for portait work is work with the lowest possible ISO for the light you're working in. Outside in the sun you can often shoot 400 or even 200 ISO, inside with a flash depending on your camera you may be able to turn it up to 800, 1000, or for a lot of really high end cameras you can pull off as much as 3000 without having to deal with a LOT of extra noise.

OK, so that's all the boring part, BUT what I definitely don't want this forum to turn into is camera basics so if you'd just skipped to here it's probably because you already understand all of the above and are just more interested in how they all relate to eachother and how to manipulate your camera faster. THIS is where I wish I had some incredible advise, but the truth is in order to know your camera you have to SHOOT it a lot! We shoot Nikon cameras simply because not only do we love the quality, but we love the feeling of a Nikon body. It quickly adjusts and has a lot of options that don't require much time to change right on the body without having to go through tons of menu items to access them. Here's a hint, go into a shoot with a photographic eye and analyze the light before you even lift up your camera. Look for shadows, reflections, glare, direct light and anything that's going to influence your camera in any way. Most photographers panic and spend so much time worrying about the way their clients are posed, or the creativity of their shot, that they don't take the time to FIRST know how to take a perfectly sharp and well lit photo in their current situation. Here's our priority list from there,
1. ISO (Set this first because it wont need to change ALL that often unless you're going inside and outside a lot)
2. White Balance (Don't feel bad shooting an auto white balance, BUT it's not a bad thing to learn about light temperatures and how to manually balance your camera. That's a different post though)
3. Aperture (Decide what kind of light you have and if you have enough light to really make a decision about what kind of depth you want in the shot)
4 Shutter (Learn to READ your light meter in your camera, it's there for a reason. Once you learn to read it, start paying attention to what lighting situations it sometimes is a little off. Our cameras have great light meters, but there are a lot of times where the final feel of the photos we want to produce influence how much light we want in the photo.)

Once you can perfectly expose your camera, THEN work on the speed of doing it! :) We're all in the same situation with this though and my honest opinion is it's much better to work slow and know what decisions your making than to move quickly and hope for the best. Clients don't pay us to gamble, they pay us to take risks creatively. If you're taking 100 terrible shots for 1 great one - you STILL got a great photo! So shoot and pay attention to light.

Cheryl & Mark {The Real-Deal}

Meet Cheryl & Mark! We met them at Melissa & Allen's wedding last year, and it seems like we've been looking forward to their wedding for ages! They're a super laid back couple who had planned on having an incredibly small, personal wedding. They found out just how quickly weddings take on a life of their own, and soon had one of our favorite wedding planners (Gatherings NWA), one of our favorite DJ's (Brock entertainment), and one of our favorite reception venues (Savor) booked. Once the guest list started growing, we started getting really excited for the party that was bound to follow this beautifully planned out "simple" catholic wedding! One of the most RARE opportunities I've had on a wedding day, we shot a 45 minute shoot with just Cheryl & Mark before the wedding, the only catch was they didn't see eachother once! That took some dancing around eachother, but turned into a fun chance to watch Mark squirm a bit. We'll be posting more photos to their facebook album soon, so check in for a link to that! So, as promised we're pretty excited to get started on a new blog venture this week. We hear all kinds of questions from photographers and people who just love to take photos and wanted to create a simple blog post that we'll use from time to time to answer some of those questions, and open up hopefully lots of good discussion for people to share their ideas with us and eachother!

After my facebook post this morning asking for ideas for our first topic we were surprised by how many people responded so quickly and wanted to just go ahead and tackle one of those questions pretty quick! Whitney Spears asked us to chat a bit about using off camera lighting and what all she needs to get started with learning to work off camera systems -

The most important thing that defines any photographer is the way they manipulate light. It's what allows creativity, and inspiration to show up at a photo shoot, and allows the subject to be comfortable and confident that the photographer is in control. Understanding light will free up your mind to be able to focus on the FUN parts of photography, and making sure that you're pushing your limits a bit. That being said, it's also the hardest part! The most basic thing to learn about light whether you're shooting with a flash, or sunlight, or strobes, is that cameras see light much different than our eyes do! Because our eyes have an incredible way of blending color and coping with contrast most people don't even realize color differences in light that varies not only from incandescent (normal light bulbs) to sunlight, and even moonlight. Cameras on the other hand can work with ANY of these light sources, the problems tend to really occur when we're working with more than one kind at once.

Let's face it, ALL of us get into some situations where our flashes, whether you're working with a pop up, or a nice speedlight just is not powerful enough. That's where working with off camera lighting can be really nice. There are several great companies that sell wireless systems - Pocket Wizard, Radio Popper, and Alien Bees just to name a few. These wireless kits usually have two parts, the transmitter is on your camera, and the receiver connects to either a flash, or strobe to tell it when to fire. The oldschool way of learning to use off camera lighting involved needing a light meter, but with the digital world came the ability to simple test shoot until your lighting is set up like you want it. Typically for portraits, you'll use either two or three lights at roughly 45 degrees on either side of your camera. That's REALLY standard, but once you get used to shooting with a few lights around you, you'll understand more the importance of having a "fill" light, (one light that is throwing light all over the subject and area around them), and a feature light, (one that is lighting usually the subject more directly). A third light is sometimes use as a back light to blow out the background or pointed up to give your subject a rear glow.

The place to start with off camera lighting is making sure you've REALLY got down working with available light, and on camera flash. In my experience off camera lighting can make a lot of photo shoots INCREDIBLE, but is often more about being really nitpicky about lighting. That being said, I think it should be the last thing most portrait photographers start to tackle when it comes to light - it's definitely not a science BUT having a really good understanding of your camera and the way light affects it will help a LOT! If you're REALLY interested in exploring more about off camera lighting good news - it's not all THAT expensive to get a good kit.. Usually about $500-$1000 will buy a really nice starter kit, and there are tons of great books that may help give you a good idea for lighting ideas, and how to more closely understand what your camera is telling your new lights to do! Check out "The Best of Photographic Lighting" by Bill Hurter, I think I bought it at Barnes & Nobel or maybe Amazon. It's a nice short read, but full of great ideas and helpful tips! The short and sweet answer to off camera lighting? We love it, BUT we rarely use it for most shoots. It's true that a single flash on a lightstand can give a photo incredible depth and a help fill in annoying shadows, BUT unless we're working in areas where there simply isn't enough light, OR we're going for a very dramatic feel, we'd both prefer to work with available light as much as possible.

Jenny & Jason {The Real-Deal}

What can we possibly say about Jenny and Jason? This couple left no stone unturned, and we loved the details and perfectly SIMPLE concepts behind their designs! We spent our morning with Jenny and her girls at the "Inn at the Mill" a cool little high end hotel that gave us the perfect backdrop for Jenny's photos and a few open beautiful fields for her and the girls to have some fun in! We caught up with Jason and his boys at Buffalo Wild Wings in Fayetteville and made sure to get a few shots of them having the first beer of the day and spending some down time before they got dressed and ready. A big beautiful ceremony at Central United Methodist downtown left us just a few blocks from the Walton Arts Center where they had the back theater completely tricked out with plenty of pink and black. A few more hours of dancing and fun and we all called it a night. Incredible wedding, great couple, FUN shots! Very unique, very... US. Thanks Jenny & Jason, WHAT a wedding! Melissa's Newest Adventure...

OK - So this is maybe my favorite little experiment Melissa has thought up in quite awhile. We have a few rare weeks off of weddings ahead of us - giving us MUCH needed time to catch our website up to date and do a whole bunch of todo's we've been putting off for years. While I'm weirdly excited to get a little time to organize our lives and plan for another busy summer and fall season, Melissa has taken on a venture of trying to conquer an entire cookbook one recipe at a time. SO, here is entry one. Tonight she pulled off cooking from scratch Panchetta + Turkey Sausage meatballs over a garlic/mint/pesto covered pasta and a spinach/radish/and mozzarella salad. I'm sure I'm not typing all of this exactly right, but what I know was day 1 was a HUGE success! A little glass of Spumante and now we're both sitting on the couch like 2:00 on thanksgiving day.

It's amazing how quickly a camera takes on a life of it's own. Somehow during this last few years of shooting we've developed this soft vintage eye that shows our clients emotions right through, and gives our brides a chance to feel classic, timeless, and still trendy. It seems like lately I've been receiving a lot of emails from up and coming photographers who are looking for a little piece of advice on how to develop not only their skill but their style and my response is always the same. - SHOOT- shoot a LOT and eventually either the love of photography turns your camera into a bit of an extension of your eye and mind, or you just get sick of it and give up. Photography now influences everything about us - our conversations, our dreams, our major purchases, and even the time we spend in funky little junk stores that sell stuff that would be incredible for photo shoots. Try your hardest not to replicate - not if you want to be taken seriously. The chances of inventing a new wheel is pretty slim, so you're going to have to do something that's been done. Just be careful how closely it hits to the people right around you. Be deliberate, be real. That's how we fell into this vintage styled look - don't get me wrong when I have a photo that's tack sharp with incredible color I do everything I can to show off the technical aspect of it. BUT, when I have a chance to overexpose just a tad, fill my shots with lots of light, and then twist and bend and play with that light until the photo looks warm, happy, and already loved on a little I can't seem to resist. SO, blog post of the night - be deliberate, be genuine. For us, it's soft, warm, timeless light that seems to show off our couples' love and our families smiles in a unique way. We get asked a lot about how we choose what to shoot. The truth is there are so many options any time there's a couple in front of us that the task isn't always being creative, it's not being overwhelmed. SO, the most important thing we both try and focus on when we shoot is finding the little things about a couple that stick out. We love to get to know our clients so well that our shoots are full of jokes and fun, and hopefully they're always a little pleasantly surprised not just by great photos, but sometimes more importantly how much fun they had! I had the chance right before Christmas to shoot with Samantha and Chad, one of our super artsy 2011 couples. It was the coldest day of winter so far but it didn't stop us, though it might have slowed us down a bit, from running all over the place having some fun. I've always loved hands and feet - people tend to be so expressive with their shoes and show so much personality through their hands. This couple was perfect for a few fun little details shots.

I had so much fun getting back into Photoshop today after a MUCH needed week off with family. As we gear up to travel all over the place again this year, I have to say - I think Shasta and Jeremy's Cozumel wedding will ALWAYS stand out to us as a favorite. Here's a few of today's shots!

Can't believe it's already 2011. We got more done last year than I ever thought we could, and my big purpose THIS year is to keep on top of deadlines and of course to keep the blog and facebook up to date so that you all know what we're up to! Working away this year on a GREAT wedding to start the year off. Shasta and Jeremy's wedding was in Cozumel over thanksgiving and I'm pretty happy so far with all of the beautiful shots we were able to grab while we were there!

We'll be shooting our first 2011 wedding THIS weekend in Fayetteville, AR. Jenny and Jason are going to have a gorgeous wedding at one of the most beautiful churches in the area and then it's off to the Walton Arts Center for a trendy cool reception filled with great ideas and little unique touches.

Wrapping up the year right we're somewhat snowed in at my parent's house in Taos, NM. Though our plans tonight are to see if we can make it past about 10:00 before we head to bed, (we're leaving EARLY in the morning for a long drive home) I'm excited about the new year and all that 2011 has ahead of us!

We've shot some incredible families and friends, have some new babies that we're so excited to be a part of their early years, and of course our wedding schedule this year has been the best so far! As we bring in the new year, we're going to be changing some of the way we do business and making sure that all of YOU are a bigger part of all of what we have going on! We'll be doing forums and tutorials helping to share some of the fun we have. Spotlighting some of our favorite vendors and all the great places we jump around to, and of course we want to make sure and keep everybody up to date on us and what the heck we're up to! :)

Here's a few photos from our last few days in New Mexico. We had a BEAUTIFUL engagement shoot with a great couple from here, and even had a fun little shoot with some of my family.

I can't believe this year has blown past us so quickly. We've had so much fun being a part of more weddings and families than ever before and we're getting excited to see what surprises are in store for 2011. Packages are under our tree, travel plans to make sure we do christmas right with both Melissa and my families are all set in stone, and all that's left is some much needed Hot Chocolate, a few more good days of productivity, and of course {fingers crossed} a snow storm or two before we get to New Mexico to ski with my family. We're interested this coming year in expanding the way we work with YOU, our clients and readers, families and friends. We want to be more involved with our community, and more effective in encouraging young photographers to learn, and old photographers to stay creative. And of course we're pretty stinking excited to book another full calendar of incredible, unique weddings.

Terrible Blogger!

So - recently had the chance to shoot some beautiful photos for an awesome lady who just happens to run her own marketing agency. I'm more than convinced that she had her speech prepared for me about how terrible of a blogger I am. Of course completely out of love she let me know that I'm a great facebooker {is that a word?} but a terrible terrible blogger! TRUTH be told blogs confuse me! I'm always interested in other peoples! {read: Jasmine Star, Green Wedding Shoes, Once Wed are just about daily visits for me} BUT my life seems either less dynamic or more than likely just overly busy to take the time to keep people up on the happenings.

None the less, here we go again - TRYING. It's like my monthly resolution to become a great blogger, or to hire somebody who is and then convince me that it's worth the time. Do people even read this? The answer sadly - NO because I NEVER update it! So here's our update of things happening so that you know, should you be interested!

1. We've shot more weddings this year than EVER before and we've been SHOCKED at how beautiful our brides have been and how much fun we've had losing sleep editing, and trying to keep up with all the new attention!
2. We're shooting a couple of new cameras! I've been a D700 shooter for awhile now, but secretly envy every person I see with a D3s in their hands. AND SO IT HAPPENED. Somehow I cornered Melissa in a VERY good mood and convinced her to let me buy it. Of course that's not all of it, the deal was simple. If I get the D3s, she wants a new D700! So, small sensors be gone, we're happy and spoiled. {They were "technically" Christmas presents to eachother}
3. We just got back from two beautiful weddings out of town. Dallas with Regan and Ryan was completely elegant in just about every way. What is it about that city? Every wedding we shoot in Dallas is perfectly put together, and though their wedding was at a church that was bigger than the county I grew up in, we still managed to get to know her incredible family and spend tons of time hanging out with their great friends at the Plano Country Club after!
4. The next day it was off to Cozumel for Shasta and Jeremy's wedding. Of course it took us 7 full days to fully capture this wedding, and plenty of time spent laying on the beach making sure we were more than rested up for it. But when it happend, it was perfect. I'm always shocked at how the small simple weddings can pull off some of the most incredible photos. {I'll attach a few shots from our trip and there's more from both of these weddings on facebook}
5. It's ALMOST Christmas which means two things. 1. We're almost done with work for the year {though we start right back up in January for some reason this is exciting to close out each year!} and 2. MUCH more importantly we're headed the day after Christmas to New Mexico for a week with my family and some much needed snow therapy.

I think that's about all I have for now! It's off to buy a few Christmas presents, and hopefully finish up or ALMOST finish up Nellie and Jed's wedding from Fayetteville! Perhaps the next time you log on there will be more - No REALLY. I'm going to try remember?

Lindsay & Michael {Sneak-Peek}

It's so much fun how inspired we get by the people around us. Of course every beautiful couple we work with, we're pumped to get to know what it is that brings their smiles out and more than anything discover what they love about eachother. But it's rare any more for us to have the chance to work with a couple that we knew really well before their wedding. Our groom from this amazing wedding is Michael Rateliff, who is Melissa's cousin. A family as tight as Melissa's comes with a lot of time together and for as long as I have been in the family Michael has been around us a lot. It was only natural then for us to get to know Lindsay really well before they even got engaged, and we were so excited to hear that they wanted to fly us all the way up to Rhode Island to be a part of an incredible wedding weekend with them! It's pretty rare for people to have the kind of jobs where what inspires them is also what excites them, and this wedding was not only perfectly Michael and Lindsay, it was also perfectly Melissa and I. I'm excited to show more of these off soon, but couldn't wait to show some of the pictures of such a beautiful bride, and of course a few shots of Michael too. PLENTY more to come!

We are loving our trip to Vermont... Got here this evening and were quick to check into our funky little bed and breakfast in Manchester. Hildene looks like an INCREDIBLE venue for a wedding, and the Country Club will make a perfect rehearsal dinner as well. A nice dinner (I had Prime Rib / Melissa's sandwich looked pretty tasty though) Then we were off to a fun little desert shop for a million calories worth of brownies and ice cream. JAZZ NIGHT, all the townies were out in full force. A quick stop over to see our couple at the 1811 house and make sure they knew how much fun we were going to have with them, and now we're back ready for some sleep... Melissa & Allen Lewis! {Bright and Bold!}

What a wedding these two had! These of course are just a few of my favorites of them from the big day, for more you can always check their album on our facebook page! I was blown away by the fun I at this wedding from the moment I stepped out of the car. The wedding party was just as sassy as they were fun, and there was no way anybody at this wedding was going to let me get away with anything without a point and a laugh. The wedding day was actually the first time I had a chance to meet Melissa since her and Allen live in Hawaii. It's always nerve wracking to meet a client on the big day, but we started it off right away with lots of light, lots of laughs, and lots of fun. Enjoy the shots!!

This couple was so much fun. We're getting a reputation all over this area of being the young crazy photographers. Climbing on walls, laying in streets, anything for a fun shot. But what really makes the photos is still quite simply the subjects, and Cody and Mike were about as easy as they come. Cody is an up and coming photographer who works for an awesome ad agency in Minnesota while Mike works with Kraft. They showed up with plenty of props, lots of ideas, and all they wanted me for was to push the button. We ran all over the place and the end result, simply unique shots - so much fun to shoot and edit.

OK, so editing break.. I've been sitting this morning, working ahead on the BEAUTIFUL wedding of Jenni and Kent that we shot a few weeks back.. It's been a nice morning so far, really just me and the puppy a lot this week. Melissa has been working the Wal-Mart Shareholders event for a few long days now and so my job is just to get as much done as possible. I'm always interested in an excuse to take a short break though, and when it hit me that I've been ignoring my good friend "blog" for awhile now I figured I'm jump on and rant about a lot of nothing.. More like complain, or actually perhaps just chat a bit to myself about all of the fun going on and the work to be done! We've really started rolling in some beautiful 2011 weddings in the last few weeks, I'm excited to see that the more we push girls to break the mold, the more we seem to attract new brides who are already doing just that. Unique Books!

Right in the middle of one of the best runs I've managed to book in the last few years, 13 photoshoots in 14 days, I'm ANXIOUS to spend a few minutes outside of photoshop, and away from my camera. What a COOL couple of weeks it has been, and with about 2 very busy weeks ahead of us, and then several more months of weddings each weekend and shoots during the week I'm so shocked to have such a calendar in front of me. A few babies, a family, a few seniors, a bunch of engagements and bridals, weddings, and even a fashion show have kept me on my toes! BUT, I have to say what I am the MOST excited about is when all of this work comes together and our clients are excited about it. That being said, I'm pumped to post some photos of the latest Unique Book we got in for Jessie and Kevin, one of the coolest weddings of 2009. We shot there wedding at an INCREDIBLE old theater in Sioux City, IA and loved their photos, but their book is really what we were excited about.. SO, after lots of time working on it, designing it, discussing it, and ordering it, it's in! Check it out.. IF You LIKE IT, get ahold of us... We've got a whole new line of books from guestbooks, parent books, brag books, bridal books, and magazine books.. It's a cool part of what we do, and we like to think it's a pretty unique way of making sure our clients are pampered a bit.

New Stuff, New Year, New Joy

I guess it's fair to say that I'm a terrible Blogger.. I haven't updated this thing consistently since I started it, and I have a hard time convincing myself that anybody really reads what I have to say. So I tend to be fairly brief and shortwinded on here.. (Something those of you who know me can clearly see that I am typically not.) None the less, I suppose I've just had a good long day, and I wanted to finish it off by sharing a bit of my heart and my mind for this year.

First thing's first, we, (Melissa and I) are so humbled by the response to our hard work this year. A little bit of advertising can go a long way, but a few good friends seem to go so much further. And what we've created this last few years has been much more than a business to us, it's been a way for us to build friendships. In a very real way since our marriage last September, our lives have changed drastically. Our time is always short, our focus is alway long, and our friendships are always changing. So, to those of you who have joined into our friend group, whether initially as clients, or "fans" or simply as some of the wonderful people we've ran into in the last 2 years, THANK YOU, you've made the joy of starting a business so much bigger than just the paychecks.

Secondly, I suppose I'm still not confident enough in myself to assume that there aren't thousands of other incredible photographers out there. In fact some of our closest friends in this area are the very photographers we compete against. So, what I am so happy to find in our friends is that they see what we do offer, a "unique" shot is only a part of it. In truth what we want to bring to our clients and friends is a humility in our work, and a gracious acceptance of the thanks that people seem to be so willing to give us. We are equally honored to be at each wedding, each shoot, and meet each new client.

Third and finally, I don't do enough to give credit where credit is due. We've been blessed to have eachother, and blessed to pursue a dream that is very God given. So, know that if you work with us in the future, or have worked with us in the past, each of our clients are in our prayers and thoughts as we take them on and are such a huge part of their weddings.

Thanks for listening to me blab, I suppose from time to time I too like to hear myself talk a bit. BUT, knowing that those of you who waste your time reading my silly words will also receive my thanks means a lot. Keep doing something... unique. Because in truth, you DO have a choice.

A few things we LOVE

So, as 2010 is WELL underway we're so excited to look back over the last few years at some of the AWESOME places we've been able to shoot, and the friends we've made with both local vendors like the Briar Patch and She Said Yes Brial, Eventures, Ricks...... As well as tons of amazing wedding vendors all over the country! So, of course whenever we have a chance to shoot some advertising work for vendors we jump on it.. It's always GREAT to see the people we love to work with have some fun new photos to show off, plus it makes us feel pretty good that they'd use our work!

We helped put this shoot together with Savor, an AWESOME reception site, and just all around delicious restaurant in Fayetteville a few months ago.. She Said Yes provided a beautiful dress, and just incase you were wondering.. YES they let me eat that steak after we shot.. mmmmmm.... OK OK OK.. So, I love the chance to show off any time we've managed to really leave a bride speachless... I know that sounds cocky, but REALLY it's the most humbling job spending week after week with people doing something that is so subjective and trying to make sure they are always happy... The payoff is always the BEST when we manage to leave a bride like Allison, who is NEVER at a loss for words, at exactly that.. SO, I asked her if she would mind me posting her email online about her reaction to her photos from her January 2nd, wedding. I'll post a photo of her and I, just to give everybody a picture of exactly how much fun we were all having.. Myself included!! SO, THANK You Allison and JD. Being a part of your wedding was a true joy, and honor for both of us! I have to say Melissa's ceremony shots were BEAUTIFUL, and we really did kick our 2010 year off with a BANG...

"I have never had my freaking face rocked off like you just did with those pictures. Like, there is absolutely no way through the coarse of this lifetime that I could ever tell you HOW AWESOME YOU ARE AND HOW FREAKING AWESOME THE PICTURES ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From the first to the last, with my crying and waving goodbye to you and your LEGIT-NESS!!!!! Like, I can't even explain it. I am sure you get this all the time, but people really do mean it when they share this excitement with you.

I couldn't even text you back because ummm.....hello, I had aaaaalllll this to say. I am just over the moon right now. My only only only fear was so far from the truth, which was I was going to wish I had more pictures, but you even rocked my face off with that!!!!!!!! Like, I have never really had such a difficult time conveying my appreciation to someone because it is soooo soooo great, greater than words. But, maybe you have some inkling of a feeling of how I am feeling about this.

The picture of you....well, not backing it up because it wasn't from the back...so, "fronting" it up on me with the macarena.....we need to do something BIG with that...they are just all all so so good. All of your hard work, PPAAIIDDD off! I would seriously wait for like a year to get those!!!! 8 weeks was CAKE!!!!

But seriously, thank you so much Miles. You are truly talented. This is your calling in life, and I know God is just smiling because He knew this would be such a good fit for you. I appreciate all of your hard work, it has been SUCH a pleasure working with you. I have nothing but excellent things to say about you......forever. Well, I won't start getting sappy---last time I did that you never wrote me back, so I'll just stop here. ha!

I was so excited when I saw this video of an AWESOME wedding we did in 2008.. Sharise and Nate's wedding was quite the ordeal in Topeka, KS. Complete with the old wood car, tons of fun members of the bridal party, unique decor, and of course the AWESOME train-station for a reception hall.. This wedding was one of our early favorites, and being a close friend Sharise made it really easy to have fun.. Look close, you'll catch a few glimpses of the photographer looking like he's having too much fun.

Finally, I'm able to show off a few more of these to the world. Melissa and I have literally shot hundreds of shots of her in the most beautiful dress I've ever seen. So, in the process of getting a billion things done - Allison Weaver's Wedding, a few portraits we're behind on, and of course filling up our 2010 schedule, I'm taking a chance to work on my favorite wedding yet.. Ours! Our amazing friends Philip and Kristen Thomas did a phenomenal job on our wedding and left me with about 700 beautiful photos that need to be edited.. WOW. So, that's been my week.. Now that it's done, or just about.. It's back to work! So, I'm excited to finally be able to blog a bit about a new product line we're offering all of our 2010 Wedding clients. Though we have to say, we LOVE the books we offered for the last two years, we're making some changes around the office product wise, and the BIGGEST change would be in our NEW line of books. Sure, we love pushing our clients to get their Save the Date magnets or post cards through us, or to order up to 100 different "unique" cards to show off their engagement and bridal photos at their wedding, or as a part of their thank you cards... But, the bread and butter of any killer wedding photographer is the way their final, key product comes together.. We've been offering the best of the best Italian leather books for two years now and are excited to still sell those as a part of any of our packages.. BUT, what if we could change the way you look at a wedding album?

What if a wedding album was TRUELY UNIQUE? Our super trendy brides can look through options of books up to 18 inches tall, with super thick pages, custom designs, and covers others photographers DREAM about. Jamie & Billy know how to throw a party.. I've heard rumors that the photographer even danced a little bit at this one. But, there aren't any photos to prove it. They had a BEAUTIFUL ceremony at Chapel on the Creeks in Rogers, and then we all headed out to Quail Unlimited somewhere about 5 miles from nowhere for a killer reception, some serious BBQ, and dancing.. They might have made more money in the dollar dance then I did all year.. Congrats you two! Beautiful photos, and a BEAUTIFUL wedding.. To see more head HERE!

Ashley & Andrew signed me FOREVER ago for their 2010 wedding... I was really excited to finally get a camera on them a few weeks back, and we did it RIGHT at the right time for some awesome fall color... They're BIG arkansas fans, and love campus so... That's where we went, and the result... Something - PRETTY! We had a blast shooting and can't wait for their blow out wedding at a massive barn somewhere, (who knows) outside of Fayetteville.. HAHA. Lisa and Bailey are completely nuts.. Lisa is one of the cutest giggly girls ever to sport ginormous tattoos all over her body and huge ear spools.. And she pulls it off flawlessly... She works with 4029 news and has more questions than even any journalist should! Bailey is a dj with the AMX on 104.9. If you've ever heard that morning show, there's very little more than needs to be said.. BUT, get them together, and they are crazy, funny, and one of the most cuddly couples we've ever worked with.. Of course it helps that they picked the coldest day of the year to shoot! Nonetheless, we had a BLAST working with them, running all over Fayetteville, and calling in some special favorite to get us in a few cool places.. Thanks you two! You guys are going to have a ROCKSTAR wedding, and we're excited to have front row seats!

Wow, I guess I can't believe I'm actually to the point in my life where a Christmas letter is a reality... To think over the last year and the changes that have happened to our lives is pretty remarkable, and then still to think that there's enough to write about seems silly. Never the less, this is our official, unofficial Christmas card.. To our family and friends, and all of the wonderful people who so faithfully keep up with our lives via this blog, or facebook, or phonecalls, texts, emails, or any of the other hundred ways that we're constantly connected to the people around us. This year has been a blur, and yet one of the longest of our lives. We got engaged January 13th, in Taos, NM at my family's house and never thought that any of the wedding planning, or the decision to build a house, or the adopting of a new puppy, buying of new furniture, or sculpting of a growing business would all be blessed upon us in a short 11 month period. BUT, such is the speed of life, and here we are... In our new house, with our puppy, on the furniture, happily married, and blessed with a massive abundance of new business, and exciting brides so anxious to have us as a part of their lives forever.

I guess we could carry on forever talking about our lives this last year. Melissa has found a job with a new company, Malone Advertising, and is up her neck in fun new challenges as she learns the advertising world full force. She will have been there about 2 months come Christmas, and we're excited about all of the potential this new job brings with it for her career, even if it does mean I have to learn how to cook a few more dinners here and there. Our puppy Jada was adopted around October 15th as a big surprise birthday present for Melissa's 25th bday. She's growing like a weed, and though we're still not entirely sure what all she has in her, we seem to have lucked out with a beautiful mix of chocolate lab, boxer, and energy. Our spoiled wrotten princess cat Chloe still does what she has always done best. She sleeps. Wherever she wants, and for as long as she wants.. But, when she's not sleeping, we're fortunate enough to have her shed all over everything.. She's the only cat I've ever really liked though, so I have a hard time hiding my soft spot for her, and when nobody's around "dad" can actually sometimes be found giving Chloe a little attention.

Finally my life... WOW, where to start. I suppose I'm a bit of a shadow of who I was this time last year. Far less nerves, now that the ring is on her finger, and I know she said yes, but a growing to do list, and now a husband. Work first of all is great.. We're blessed this next year to have a whole crew of crazy brides so anxious and excited that we're involved in their big day.. Somehow or another, they're still convinced that they're the lucky ones... We on the other hand, couldn't be more excited to always meet the next one, and watch as their lives change just like ours have this last year. I suppose aside from that, there really is little more for me to say about myself.. I'm a shockingly proud husband, so my family has already become the thing I gloat the best about. I will say that we had the opportunity over the last few months to be involved in a few photo based charities that I am excited to share about. Help Portrait was December 12th, and in every way blessed us more than we could possibly have hoped to pass on to the families that we worked with that day. Alright, such is life, it's after 9:30 and it's time for me to be in bed. My photos are edited for the evening. The dog has been fed, the cat is asleep, and I am ready to spend a few minutes with my wife chatting about our days, and our big plans for the next few weeks. Thank you all for your prayers, your love, and your support in our every day lives as we so enjoy the ride that God has given us this last year, and look forward to where HE will take us in the year to come. We're blessed to have two families who raised us in love, and to find ourselves in a new loving home with plenty of years ahead of us.

Alright, so move over Wedding clients!! MR. Maddox is officially 6 months old! Which means, we got to hang out with one of our favorite clients under 2 feet tall.. He's growing up so quick it's crazy, and since we only get to see him every 3 months, it seems like a different baby EVERY shoot.. Happy Halloween Maddox!

To update the world of BLOG on. I'm cranking away on SO many cool edits.. 5 WONDERFUL weddings in October have left us WAY behind... But I will also admit, these weddings were some of the LARGEST and most fun we've been a part of. SO THANK YOU! I'm in the process of prepping for a HUGE website update and remodel, the release of our portrait website will happen over the winter months during a little touch of down time, and I'll finally have the chance to catch up on all of the albums that I have had to avoid working on in order to get everybody's photos finished... 2010 is by far our most successful, booking year yet, with more weddings booked already than we had in 2009 total! So, there's SO many things to be excited about!! BUT, first and foremost, it's time for me to start editing OUR wedding which was shot by Philip Thomas with NOVO-Studio and his amazing wife Kristen. Here's a taste of some of our shots.. Keep checking in for a few big updates with new client announcements, wedding teasers, and 2010 specials for our killer group of seniors, weddings, and of course the faithful families who simply WONT leave us alone! :)

Ok, so this couple is completely nuts.. But I have to say I love it.. Getting to know them at this shoot left me in cramps we were laughing so hard.. Greg work with the Dallas Cowboys making sure that the games go off without a hitch, and Natalie has to work extra hard just trying to keep Greg in control.. Really though we had a blast at their shoot, and I'm so excited to finally share all of these shots with the world.. Congrats you two!
